Trees

The board invited an arborist from Davey Tree to examine the red maple trees that have been failing at an alarming rate. Many of the trees were found to be infested with gloomy scale. These pests pierce the bark and rob trees of nutrients necessary for proper growth.

This Fall, we replaced four of the worst affected maples with 12-ft tall Princeton Elms, a hardy, fast-growing variety that requires a minimum of maintenance once established.

Come early Spring, Davey Tree will return to treat affected maples for gloomy scale and to apply nutrients to all greenspace trees via deep-root injection.

The board will assess greenspace trees each Fall with the plan to replace 2-3 failing trees annually. Wynterfield II is one of the last subdivisions in Durham with a substantial greenspace buffer between buildings. As such, maintaining our greenspace is essential to maximizing our community’s desirability (and, thus, property values).

You Can Help Beautify Our Neighborhood! The Board invites all residents to consider donating a tree to our community! If you would like to contribute the cost for an additional tree to beautify the landscape near your property, contact Paul for info!
